José Cukier

I treat the support as I treated my patients: I encouraged free association, relating anything that came into their minds without repressing anything. So everything that occurs to me I add to the support without thinking of the final result.
Dr. José Cukier is a psychoanalist and an artist. He uses unconventional materials for his collage technique, like plastic, glass, plaster, canvas, metal, wood, different objects found in dump containers, etc. He paints with his fingers and uses industrial paints, dyes, inks, and acid solvents. Then he uses a blowlamp to achieve colours difficult to discern.
He believes that, as in his profession, everything can be useful.
It is difficult to find two of his artworks that look alike. He can go from informalism to neoconceptualism, but abstract expressionism is predominant. Nevertheless, a common line can be found in his paintings: a great concern for society, life and death, love, religion and the transitory quality of things.
