Earth Colours

These are pigments which were originally made from coloured earth. They include terre verte, a soft green, and yellow ochre, sienna, umber and indian red which range in colour from soft yellow to brown.

Extender

An extender, or filler, is an inert substance – often aluminium hydrate – blanc fixe or china clay – that is used to “pad out” the pigment. Extenders are commonly used in student paints to reduce the cost, improve structural qualities, or to make a colour more opaque.
